ITEM TITLE: Lodging Tax Advisory Committee Report

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee met on June 9, 2020, using Zoom:
• The 2021 Lodging Tax Grant Application was posted on the city's website from April 1 st
through the deadline for completion of June 1st, and is still there for next year's planning
purposes.
• Applications received by staff and distributed to Committee members prior to the meeting
were reviewed, and the following all met eligibility requirements:
1. Capitol Theatre
2. Convention Center
3. Fair Park Sundome
4. SOZO Sports Complex
5. Yakima Airport
6. Yakima Valley Museum
• The Committee reviewed the current-year 2020 and 2021 lodging tax revenue forecasts.
• The hotel general managers on the Committee reported on current vacancy rates and
known future events and bookings.
• The Committee meets next in August, allowing two more months of lodging tax revenues to
become known before formulating a balanced recommendation, which will allow time for the
45-day window of communication prior to budget adoption that RCWs require.
