MINUTES OF THE
BOARDS & COMMISSIONS
NOMINATING COMMITTEE MEETING
MAY 10, 2011
2:00 P.M.
Attendees: Mayor Cawley (alternate), Council Members Adkison and Ensey and
Deputy Clerk Watkins. Also present for a portion of the meeting was
Tammy Regimbal
Absent: Assistant Mayor Coffey
Council Member Adkison was appointed Acting Chair of the meeting.
1. Arts Commission
CAWLEY MOVED AND ENSEY SECONDED TO RECOMMEND GAIL WRIGHT BE
APPOINTED AS THE ALLIED ARTS REPRESENTATIVE REPLACING JESSICA
MOSKWA AND DENNIS HOGENSON AS THE CAPITAL THEATRE
REPRESENTATIVE REPLACING SANDY DAHL: The motion carried by
unanimous voice vote.
Mrs. Regimbal advised the committee of a suggestion that had come forward to hold a
Boards and Commissions social function (a Meet and Greet) to include members of all
Citizen Committees as well as Council members and potential candidates for upcoming
411 committee vacancies. This would allow members to mix, become aware of vacancies
across all committees and potentially elicit recommendations for same. Potential
applicants would have the opportunity to meet current members and obtain information
regarding committees functions and time commitments. The Nominating Committee
agreed with the idea and will recommend it to the full Council.
2. Community Review Board
ENSEY MOVED AND CAWLEY SECONDED TO RECOMMEND REMOVAL OF
MARTIN CHACON• FROM THE CRB DUE TO LACK OF ATTENDANCE AND
NOMINATE RICHARD MARCLEYAND MEI LYNNE STATLER FOR
APPOINTMENT TO THE COMMUNITY REVIEW BOARD. The motion carried by
unanimous voice vote.
3. Parks and Recreation Commission
• Youth Positions — The Committee recommends Ken Wilkinson, contact Elaine
Beraza, Superintendant of the Yakima School District soliciting students for the
two youth positions that have been created on the Parks and Recreation
Commission. It was requested that the students be juniors or seniors.
• Alex Deccio — CAWLEY MOVED AND ENSEY SECONDED TO DESIGNATE
ALEX DECCIO AS AN HONORARY MEMBER OF THE PARKS AND
. RECREATION COMMITTEE AND NOMINATE JO MILES TO FILL THE
VACANCY CREATED BY DOING SO. The motion carried by unanimous voice
vote.

4. Airport Board
ENSEY MOVED AND CAWLEY SECONDED TO NOMINATE DAVE MILLER TO
THE AIRPORT BOARD. The motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
5. Tourist Promotion Area
After review, it was determined that the public hearing scheduled for May 17 must
be held prior to any action being taken.
6. Other Business
It was noted that June 30 is the expiration date of over 20 terms on the various
boards and commissions. An email has been sent to the staff liaisons asking them
to be sure the subject is raised by the chairs at the meetings requesting they
determine whether there will be reappointments and soliciting new applications
where required.
Mayor Cawley asked to have Randy Beehler prepare a 30 second public service
announcement radio spot to announce the upcoming vacancies and the need for
citizen volunteers. Council Member Adkison agreed to read the spots over the air
