A RESOLUTION authorizing and directing the City Manager of the City of Yakima to
execute a letter amendment to the architectural services agreement with
Wardell Architects P.S. for additional kitchen design with the Yakima
Convention Center Expansion.
WHEREAS, the City desires to expand the Yakima Convention Center; and
WHEREAS, the City requires professional architectural services in order to expand the
Yakima Convention Center; and
WHEREAS, the City does not have the staffing levels or specialized expertise necessary
to provide said architectural services; and
WHEREAS, Wardell Architects P.S. has the experience and expertise necessary to
provide said architectural services and is willing to provide such services in accordance with
the terms and conditions of the attached agreement; and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of the City of Yakima to
amend the existing agreement with Wardell Architects P.S. for professional architectural
services in accordance with the terms and conditions of the attached letter agreement,
now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
The City Manager of the City of Yakima is hereby authorized and directed to execute
the attached and incorporated letter amendment to architectural services agreement with
Wardell Architects P.S. for expansion of the Yakima Convention Center.

Dear Mrs. Wardell:
Per City Council Action on April 16 2002, the City of Yakima agrees to amend the Yakima Convention Center
Professional Service Agreement executed on September 19, 2001 between the City of Yakima and Wardell
Architects, P.S. in the following manner:
Wardell Architects shall proceed with design and contract documents for approximately 2,000 square feet of
kitchen shell space expansion on the west side of the Yakima Convention Center. The kitchen shell design shall
include exterior wall, concrete floor slab, roof, HVAC system, and plumbing and electrical rough -in. Finishes
and lighting shall not be included, as it is understdod that M and M Catering / West Coast Hotels or other future
catering company will be providing these treatments and finishes.
This amendment to the September 19, 2001 contract is for an additional amount not to exceed $21,000 for all
fees, services, and expenses.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties have caused this Amendment to be executed as of the day and year first
written above.

Except as expressly modified herein, all other terms and conditions of the Convention Center Professional
Services Agreement dated September 19, 2001 shall remain in full force and effect. Yakima

ITEM TITLE: Resolution Authorizing a Letter Amendment to the Architectural
Services Agreement with Wardell Architects, P.S., for the Yakima
Convention Center Expansion Project.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The Community & Economic Development Department respectfully requests City Council approval of
a Resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute the attached letter amendment to the existing
architectural services agreement with Wardell Architects, P.S. Wardell Architect's has undertaken the
design and preparation of additional contract documents for approximately 2,000 square feet of
kitchen shell space expansion on the west side of the Yakima Convention Center Expansion Project.
This is being done in conjunction with the overall design for expansion of the Center, and the potential
need to improve the preparation of food service delivery and provide more storage in the expanded
facility.

Wardell Architects is creating the addition of the kitchen shell design /storage area as an add /alternate
to the Center expansion bidding and contract documents. The kitchen design includes exterior walls,
concrete floor slab, roof, HVAC system, and plumbing and electrical rough in. Finishes and lighting
are not included, as it is understood that M and M Catering /West Coast Hotels or other future catering
company would be providing these treatments and finishes if the kitchen area could be added within
the estimated budget for the Center after final bids are received.
The attached letter amendment to the contract is for an amount not to exceed $21,000 in fees based
upon an anticipated construction cost of $177,000.
