1 Mission Statement
1
The principal mission of the Yakima Police Department is the preservation
1 of life and property, to reduce fear in the community through the prevention
and detection of crime, protection of persons and property, the
1 maintenance of order in public places, to anticipate and respond to events
that threaten public order, and to preserve the rights of the citizens.
It is essential that all members of the police service remember that in the
execution of their duties they act not for themselves but for the good of the
1 public. They shall respect and protect the rights of individuals and perform
their duties with honesty, zeal, courage, discretion, fidelity, and sound
judgment. Police officers must seek and preserve public confidence by
demonstrating impartial enforcement of the law, being truthful and honest
' in all their official duties; and be offering of service and trust to all members
of the public. Our broad philosophy must embrace a
wholehearted determination to protect and support individual rights of all,
while at all times providing for the security of persons and property in the
community. It is our sworn duty to engage in the relentless pursuit of
1 criminals who prey on the citizens of our community and not be deterred by
fear of retribution, political influence, or personal bias.
1 Guiding Principles of Our Mission:
1 • Honor
• Integrity
• Fidelity
' • Courage.
