R-2006 — 83 authorizing the City Manager to execute an amendment extending the Interlocal Jail Agreement with the City of Toppenish through December 31, 2006. WHEREAS, on February 7, 2002, the City of Yakima executed an Interlocal Jail Agreement with the City of Toppenish for jail services; and WHEREAS, the City of Yakima and the City of Toppenish have extended the Agreement twice, through December 31, 2004, and again through December 31, 2005; and WHEREAS, the City of Yakima desires to continue utilizing the jail facilities maintained by Toppenish for the detention of Yakima prisoners; and WHEREAS, the City of Toppenish is willing to continue making its jail facilities available to Yakima for the detention of some Yakima prisoners at the rate of $40 per day; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it is in the best interest of the City to authorize an amendment extending the Interlocal Jail Agreement to December 31, 2006, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The City Manager of the City of Yakima is hereby authorized to execute the attached and incorporated "City of Yakima Interlocal Jail Agreement Amendment" for jail services through December 31, 2006. ATTEST: e-�-� City Clerk Edler, Mayor CITY OF YAKIMA INTERLOCAL JAIL AGREEMENT AM ENDMENT WHEREAS the City of Yakima and the City of Toppenish have a contract dated the 7th day of February, 2002, for the incarceration of prisoners; and WHEREAS in December 2004, the City of Yakima and the City of Toppenish signed an amendment extending the Agreement through December 31, 2005; and WHEREAS the City of Yakima and the City of Toppenish wish to continue this Agreement, NOW THEREFORE IT IS AGREED TO AMEND THE INTERLOCAL JAIL AGREEMENT AS FOLLOWS: 1. The City of Toppenish, through its police department, will continue to provide space for City of Yakima prisoners at the daily rate of forty dollars ($40.00) per day, per prisoner, until December 31, 2006. 2. The City of Toppenish, through its police department may collect a ten dollar ($10.00) booking fee from the inmate to be retained by the City. CITY OF YAKIMA R.A. Gary Belles - 576-6393 SUMMARY EXPLANATION: Attached is a resolution authorizing the execution of an Interlocal Jail Agreement between the City of Yakima and the City of _Toppenish. The proposed contract modifies the 2005 contract to reflect increased costs to the 'City of Toppenish associated with the housing of City of Yakima prisoners. The proposal will allow the City of Yakima to continue to house misdemeanant offenders in the Toppenish City Jail in exchange for a $10.00 initial booking fee and a daily rate of $40.00.
