A RESOLUTION declaring a used police vehicle to be surplus and authorizing its transfer to
the Union Gap Police Department.
WHEREAS, the City owns one used 2001 Chevy Impala in the Equipment Rental and
Replacement Division, equipment number 1390 for which the City has no immediate or
foreseeable use and which is surplus to the needs of the City; and
WHEREAS, the City of Union Gap Police Department has requested the donation of the
said used police vehicle; and
WHEREAS, this vehicle would have very low value at auction; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it would be in the best interest of the City to
transfer this police vehicle forthwith rather than sell it at a public auction of City surplus
equipment at a later date, now, therefore;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
The City Council hereby declares the aforementioned 2001 Chevy Impala to be surplus
to the needs of the City of Yakima and the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to
transfer said 2001 Chevy Impala to the Union Gap Police Department.
ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 16th day of October, 2007.

ITEM TITLE: Consideration of a Resolution Transferring a Surplus Used Police Vehicle to
the Union Gap Police Department.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The Police Department has received a request from the Union Gap Police Department for the
transfer of a used police vehicle. This vehicle is a 2001 Chevy Impala K-9 Unit, which is no longer
needed or used by the Yakima Police Department and is surplus. Normally this vehicle would be
auctioned off, but due to its age and condition would bring in little money.
We believe it is in the spirit of cooperation and public safety to donate this vehicle to the Union Gap
Police Dept. instead of auctioning it. It will be of more use in protecting life and property if donated
to Union Gap than the benefit we would gain by the small amount of revenue we would realize in
auctioning it.
