Request from South Central *Workforce Council: South Central Workforce Council
requested reimbursement in the amount of $5,000 for the cost of renting the Yakima
Convention Center for the 2011 Yakima Job Fair. The funding source would be CDBG
Public Service funds. Organizers Patrick Baldoz and Jean Brown said they expect 50-70
employers to attend and the day will include a variety of workshops for job seekers. The
tentative date is April 26. The Committee forwarded the item to full Council with a
recommendation to approve.
Update on Barge Chestnut Historic District Guidelines Vaughn McBride told the Committee
that the Barge Chestnut Association has decided to utilize the Secretary of the Interior
Standards that are already part of the Ordinance instead of adopting neighborhood specific
guidelines. The Committee requested that a status report be provided to Council; the report
• should include a synopsis of what is covered in the Ordinance and how the review process
will be implemented.
NSP III: Archie Matthews reviewed the projects the City started under NSP 1 & II. Michael
Morales explained the NSP III application process. The proposed use for the funds would
be the existing NSP project in northeast Yakima. The Committee encouraged staff to
proceed with the application.
North First Street revitalization: Councilmember Coffey reminded everyone of the Council's
commitment to North First Street and said she is anxious to see some activity. Michael
Morales will report to the full Council following the next Council North First Street Committee
meeting (scheduled for March 3). In the meantime, he reported increased code compliance
enforcement efforts in the area.
The next meeting of the Council Neighborhood Development Committee will be
Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at 9:30 a.m., in the CED Conference Room
