Council Development Committee . • Wednesday, January 5, 2011 2:30 p.m. Council Members present: Maureen Adkison, David Edler Staff: Joan Davenport • Guests: Dave McFadden — YCDA, George Pechtel Upcoming Planning Commission activities: Joan Davenport. reported that the Yakima Planning Commission will hold a retreat on January 26, and she asked if it would be possible to appoint a Council liaison to the Planning Commission at the Council's meeting on January 18. The Councilmembers supported a recommendation of Councilmember Ensey to serve as the Planning Commission liaison. Draft Yakima River Basin Water Enhancement Project (YRBWEP) Workgroup: Dave Brown briefly explained the draft document and the timeline. The workgroup is asking for support from each member of the YRBWEP to move the project forward. More discussions and details will follow over the next several months, with more opportunities for the agencies to comment. Councilmember Edler moved that the Council Economic Development Committee recommends support and continuation of the process to the full Council. Councilmember Adkison seconded the motion. • Request from George Pechtel — consider ideas to increase community involvement and new development: Mr. Pechtel shared some of his ideas regarding planning for the future of the community. Dave McFadden suggested a broad discussion including enhanced job and education opportunities. Mr. Pechtel sees 'a need to disseminate more information to the community, and specifically the younger generation regarding • our history; which in turn could lead to discussions about the future. Councilmember Edler noted that Mr. Pechtel has challenged the Committee to a philosophical conversation regarding a visioning process to begin to move the community forward. Councilmember Edler requested updates on the Yakima Bears issue and the millsite.
