HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/10/2010 00 Presented at the Meeting - I 41/0// I want to thank our City Council for the fine work they do in leading Yakima into the future and for giving each of us the opportunity to share our concerns and suggestions in this series of open meetings. Bullies We all know how offensive Bullies are on the school playground they try to build themselves up by taking advantage of, terrorizing and abusing others in many cases simply using their greater physical size to intimidate the smaller children. In many cases all it takes is for a couple others on the playground to band together and stand up to the bully to make them backdown and behave themselves. We have a very similar situation in America today I would like to see Yakima City Council pass a resolution of support for the state of Arizona's efforts to control their, and by extension, our southern national border In light of the fact that several major cities (New York, Seattle, Los Angeles) have passed resolutions to distance themselves from Arizona's brave solo stand I would like to see the city of Yakima pass a resolution instructing all city departments to explore opportunities to do business in and with Arizona companies and do whatever possible to encourage our fellow citizens in Arizona. The weak livered denizens of some big cities want to play the "playground bully" and attempt to intimidate Arizona into changing their recently enacted, and not-yet-even-in-effect immigration law; a much maligned and distorted law simply aimed at discouraging attempts to evade US law and enter our country illegally There have also been organizations and other businesses that have changed their plans and are attempting to boycott and thus apply pressure on and punish Arizona. Regardless of our political strip we need to recognize that Arizona has done the correct thing, in taking a move to protect our southern flank from this onslaught of illegal, and in many cases violent immigration. The Yakima City Council needs to join the "Buycott - Back Arizona" movement - to be the first small municipality to let Arizona know that there are millions of Americans who support their effort to stem the tide of illegal, and in many cases, violent immigration. As we take this first symbolic step there will be a following ground swell, and then a tsunami of support for Arizona, embarrassing the playground bullies into crawling back under their rocks, and encouraging our friends in Arizona in taking this first step to protect all law - loving and law - abiding Americans. Thank you again for your time. Ted Hochstatter tbonetedh @gmail.com http:/ / www.buycottarizona.com/
