HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/14/2010 04B Minutes 11-18-2010 Council Transportation and Transit Committee Minutes of 411 Yakima City Council Transportation and Transit Committee Community & Economic Development Conference Room Yakima City Hall, 129 North 2nd Street, Yakima, WA 98901 Thursday, November 18, 2010 1 00 -1 45 pm City Council Members Staff Other Micah Cawley (Absent & Excused) Ken Mehin, Transit Manager Rick Ensey Kevin Futrell, Transit Planner Dave Ettl , Councilman Rick Ensey called the meeting to order at 1 00 pm in the Community & Economic Development (CED) Conference Room at City Hall Ken Mehin started meeting by sharing information on the five consolidated grant applications recently scored by the YVCOG Mehin stated that they are rated from A through C and with A being the top rated score 1 Yakima /Ellensburg Commuter - - -C 2 Extended Hours - - -A 3 Sunday Service - - -A 4 Additional Bus Shelters - - -B 5 Security Cameras at Public Works Facility —B Mehin commented that the grant application they submitted last year for the Yakima /Ellensburg Commuter was in two parts and they were approved however Ellensburg was denied even though it was a joint effort. Therefore this year they have submitted it as one application with combined efforts that would make them • each responsible for half of the routes Mehin added this is the 4th year they apply for this grant. Kevin Futrell elaborated on the purposes of the consolidated grants saying that the commuter would benefit the people who need to travel back and forth to YVCC, CWU, NW University, Perry Tech and to medical appointments Futrell commented next on the extended hours for the fixed routes saying they would like to extend this service for another year Futrell briefly mentioned that they would like to extend the Sunday service starting in March of 2011 another year making it a two year project and that it would also reduce the cost of the Dial -A -Ride service Mehin commented that the extended hours and Sunday service are the top requested services from bus passengers Ettl questioned how they get their feedback from bus passengers and Mehin responded that they have passenger comment cards on all the buses along with the asktransit website Futrell mentioned the purchase of additional bus shelters this would be beneficial to passengers during the extreme weather conditions we experience throughout the year Futrell added that if approved it is an 80/20 match by the Fed's Security cameras on the Public Work's premises was the last of grants mentioned which Futrell emphasized the importance of having on site security He added that the security cameras they have in place at the Transit Center has been a huge source to them Futrell brought up an interlocal agreement with PAHTO Public Transit that they are currently working on this would allow them to come into our jurisdiction without any exchange of money Futrell's last comments were that Transit's Drug and Alcohol Policy needed some modifying in which he made some additions to policy that included the follow up testing and the return to duty policy Futrell said it has is sent the Union for approval Mehin's final comments were that bus ridership is down 3 8% compared to last year and reported they currently have 28 vans on the road There were no • her items for discussion so the adjourned at 1 30 pm Approved by' 1
