The minutes from the October 6 meeting were reviewed Beraza motioned to accept the minutes as presented and Folsom -Hill seconded the motion The motion passed unanimously Sub Committee Updates. Suppression Granato provided background information on the Safe Street project. This project has been in the works and should be funded in January The employees on the Task Force have been identified (Yakima Police Department — 3, Yakima County — 1, Department of Corrections — 1, Washington State Patrol — 1, ATF /ICE /FBI — 1) The offices and workstations are ready to go, officers /detectives are working with the Crime Analyst and will focus on open cases DeVilleneuve distributed a draft copy of a letter he prepared to the City Council on the Steering Committee's behalf There was discussion about the letter The Committee decided that some language about the urgency of the request be added Beraza motioned to accept the letter submitted by Chris and that it is forwarded to the City Council on the Committee's behalf Folsom -Hill seconded the motion The motion passed unanimously DeVilleneuve will make the changes to the letter and submit it to the City Council Prevention Gutierrez reported that the Committee has been meeting regularly The Prevention Sub - Committee is having a listening session on October 28 from 6- 8 OOpm at Washington Middle School The agenda is being finalized and will be sent out with a press release in the next few days Beraza offered the translation system for the event. Intervention Marquez reported that the Intervention Sub - Committee met and will be coordinating future meetings with Magallan Marquez offered to Co -Chair the Intervention Sub - Committee with Rodriguez -True During some neighborhood meetings, Garcia has heard people say they would like to have an on -site crises response team (not police) The Steering Committee will discuss this during the retreat. New Business. Retreat: November 13 is the date for the Steering Committee retreat. It will be an all - day event with the location to be determined Marquez asked if there would be a presentation on gangs in Yakima Several people only know about gangs from what they read in the paper There are several incidents that are not reported to the paper Executive Committee There was discussion about the need for an Executive Committee to deal with day -to -day administrative items The Committee would deal with protocol, etc Histogram One item that will be on the retreat agenda is to review and update • Yakima's history If you have any business plans, grant applications, papers or documents, etc please bring them to the retreat. Folsom -Hill commented that there is a lot of value going back and looking at where we have been and help shape where we are going This will get everyone on the same page Community Assessment: This is something that is starting now If you are interested in participating contact Magallan Marquez commented that the Yakima County Gang Coalition is preparing a community assessment and that the Steering Committee might be able to tie into what they are doing Magallan distributed a timeline that was reviewed by the Committee Old Business. Student Participation Coffey reported that schools are very receptive to having someone speak during meetings She suggested having a speaker's bureau, etc that would be available for anyone interested The person (or people) speaking would have a power point and handouts for the meetings Coffey, Adkison and the students will create a presentation that can be used Beraza stated that due to several conflicts the student from Davis is not able to attend the meetings She requested permission to replace the student. The Committee • authorized Beraza to find a replacement. Date for next meeting.
