HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/03/1977 Business Meeting 442 ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING - FEBRUARY 3, 1977 ' The City Council met in session on this date at 12:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Yakima City Hall. Council members present were ;Mayor Betty L. Edmondson, Ralph Holbrook, W. K. "Pete" Moore, Nadine Walker and Gordon Wonder. Council members absent were Jean Allard and Dr. Bill Simmons. Mary Gustafson, Community Relations Officer, discussed with Council the duties of the Community Relations Officer suggesting that Council may wish to change some of the duties originally outlined. The Ordinance specifying these duties was also discussed, as well as the matter of involvement of the Human Relations Commission in a ! crisis situation, without overlapping police involvement. It was felt that the Commission must investigate, but after the Police and in a different way. Mrs. Gustafson referred to the matter of ser- vice complaints and asked if the Community Relations Officer is to handle these. Council members indicated that they feel the only time the Community Relations Officer should get involved in service , complaints is when a citizen feels he doesn't get the problem solved to his satisfaction from the department. City Manager ' Eastman indicated he would like to get the complaints, which will then be routed to the department involved. There was discussion regarding contract compliance and the monitoring of affirmative action. Council members then thanked Mrs. Gustafson for her work as interim Community Relations Officer and indicated their approval of the direction that has been taken by her and the Human Relations Commission. Councilman Holbrook stated he hopes management is thinking about the water shortage problems and was assured that the status of wells and the water situation is being researched. Mayor Edmondson reported that she will be attending a Mayors' meeting regarding irrigation. There being no further business to come before the Council, it was MOVED by Moore, seconded by Holbrook that this meeting be adjourned at the hour of 1:30 P.M.: carried, Edmondson, Holbrook, Moore, Walker and Wonder voting aye by voice vote.
