EAS the family is the foundation of a safe and healthy community, and every individual.nay the rig fit to five without fear; and tWflERE S, domestic violence affects all citizens of Yakima, crossing aff racial, social, religious, ethnic,geographicafand economic groups; and WI-MUM domestic violence is an immense problem in Yakima County, wlere in 2019, tfle YWCA Yakima served more than 6,600 individuals who were impacted by domestic violence; and WIFE AS, in Yakima County, there (nave been more than 39 domestic violence-related homicides since 1997; this number includes domestic violence victims, their children,fiends or fami0 members, as well as law enforcement officers, and ` i&EREAS domestic violence is widespread, whereby one in three persons will either be a victim of violence or personal& know someone who is a victim; and WWIFEUAS, the City of Yakima is committed to eliminating domestic violence and ensuring a safe and healthy community for all its citizens, WOW 4JFE1REcFGRE, in recognition of the impact that domestic violence has on the health and well-being of our community, I, 'Cathy Coffey, Mayor of the City of Yakima and behalf of the Yakima City Council, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2019 as "DOWIcSTIC VIOLENCE ASS .9109\17,19' in the City of Yakima and urge aff citizens to participate in the activities planned by the YWCA Yakima and community organizations during this month. Citizens should also take the opportunity to educate themselves about the impact of domestic violence in Yakima and to become familiar with resources andprograms available.
