The purpose of this public meeting was to gather with stakeholders within the community both
private and professional interested in the plan and development of a Pedestrian Master Plan
(PMP).
The following professional and private groups represented were; Yakima Valley Memorial
Hospital, La Casa Hogar, Yakima Bikes and Walks, YVCOG.
Information was exchanged and included Complete Streets and Vision Zero concepts both
incorporating street design, infrastructure, education, and enforcement, encouraging safer use
of our public spaces. All transportation of moving people, whether by using pedestrian, transit,
bicycle and vehicular modes, meet up within the lay of the land of a Pedestrian Master Plan
which in its simplest context makes all streets, all users safer.
The importance of incorporating a Pedestrian Master Plan into the Yakima Transportation has
benefits; it avails opportunities for future grant money, guides for development and
maintenance of sidewalks, walk signals, and an interchange of shared space information and
education. Pursuing a PMP is part of ongoing improvements along with the Bicycle Master Plan
which encourage present and future building of shared streetscapes which bode a healthier
environment and enriched population.
Larry Mattson representing YVCOG will explore private foundations for funding Pedestrian
Master Plan.
Clarifications and other points will be picked up at a later date due to not having access to the
Y -PAC air time.
