CaII to Order Commission Chair Kenmotsu called the meeting to order at approximately 5:30 P.M. II. RoII CaII Present: Leslie Wahl • Karl Pasten • Nancy Rayner • Nancy Kenmotsu • Joe Mann Quorum: Quorum present Staff: Historic Preservation Liaison Jeff Peters; Historic Preservation Liaison Assistant Trevor Martin III. New Business A. Update on DAHP Grant Process Trevor gave a brief update on the DAHP grant application. Trevor explained that he has been in contact with Spencer Howard from Artifacts. Artifact was going to begin their interviewing process for the Historic Preservation Element of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan update. Spencer has also indicated that he will be available and in attendance for the day of the Comprehensive Plan open house to discuss the proposed Historic Preservation element. IV. Other Business A. General Discussion of Other Items Not on the Agenda Nancy Kenmotsu and Joe Mann discussed the Yakima Farmers Market and when the Commission members would like to represent the Historic Preservation Commission at the Farmers Market. Leslie Wahl suggested having a Commission member at the Farmers Market one Sunday a month from June to September. Nancy Kenmotsu motioned to be present at the Farmers Market one Sunday a month from June to September. Motion carried 5-0 Nancy Rayner asked if there have been any new members appointed to the Historic Preservation Commission. Staff mentioned that there were some applications, but we were still waiting to officially here Councils decision. Nancy Kenmotsu discussed Revitalize Washington and that all Historic Preservation Commission members should consider going. Nancy Kenmotsu also discussed the idea of potentially putting in a bid to host the Revitalize Washington Conference in the near future as well as the Annual Northwest Anthropological Conference. Nancy Kenmotsu discussed potentially writing articles about recent historical projects within Yakima that could then be published. Trevor Martin mentioned that the new City Council liaison is Avina Gutierrez, Mayor. Commission Members Nancy Kenmotsu * Joe Mann ■ Karl Fasten * Nancy Rayner * Leslie Wahl • Whitney Stohr 1 Karl Pasten discussed that there was a recent landslide that occurred on the trolley route into Selah, and that length of rail will shut down until further notice. Nancy Kenmotsu asked about the William 0 Douglas trail. Staff responded that there have not been any changes from the last update, but once there are changes, Staff will inform the Commission. Joe Mann discussed the excise tax that Yakima County has been receiving for Historic Preservation and that he would like to start a conversation with the County on allocating some of those funds to the City of Yakima Historic Preservation Commission for small budget activities. Joe Mann discussed potentially refinishing the lights along Naches Ave. Jeff Peters discussed the new City Council structure and where the Historic Preservation Commission falls within this structure. Joe Mann Discussed the possibility of establishing a Naches Historic District. V. Citizen Participation No citizens participated in the meeting. VI. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at approximately 6:15 p.m. to the next scheduled meeting which will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
