II. Roll Call Present: Whitney Stohr, Cynthia Hall, Jacob Clay, Leslie Wahl Absent: Karl Pasten (excused), Nancy Kenmotsu (excused) Quorum: Quorum present Staff: Historic Preservation Liaison Joseph Calhoun III. Approval of August 23, 2017 and September 27, 2017 Minutes The meeting minutes from August 23, 2017 and September 27, 2017 were presented for discussion. A motion was made by Ms. Hall to approve as submitted, Ms. Wahl seconded. Motion carried. IV. New Business A. Chair/Vice-Chair Vote A motion was made by Ms. Hall to elect Whitney Stohr as Commission Chair and Leslie Wahl as Vice Chair of the Commission, Mr. Clay seconded. Motion carried. V. Old Business A. Saturday Soapbox Ms. Stohr noted that one of the commission's pieces was published in October. Ms. Wahl noted that Don Meyers of the Yakima Herald Republic had recently been publishing articles related to `Historical Yakima' and that she would reach out to him to see if there was any opportunity for supporting the continuation of these articles with the commission. Certificate of Appropriateness Mr. Calhoun notified the commission that the city received an application for a certificate of appropriateness for solar panels in the Barge Chestnut neighborhood. Once the application is complete, the commission will review. B. Staff Changes Mr. Calhoun notified the commission that he would no longer be serving as the staff liaison for the commission and that instead, Trevor Martin and Colleda Monick would be serving as the new liaisons. Mr. Martin will be the main point of contact and Ms. Monick will be the secondary point of contact. C. Grants Mr. Martin notified the commission that an opportunity to apply for grant funding through the Department of Archeology & Historic Preservation would be available in 2018 and that he and would bring forward some suggestions and additional information to the next meeting. Ms. Stohr expressed interest in understanding how grant funding would be administered under the commission and Mr. Calhoun agreed to research and bring information back to the commission. D. Discussion regarding the commission vacancy and whether or not it made sense to reach out the Downtown Association of Yakima and or the Museum to see if there was interest from either or both of these organizations. Ms. Stohr agreed to reach out to the Yakima Valley Museum. VII. Citizen Participation None VIII. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at approximately 5:45 p.m. to the next scheduled meeting which will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
