Minutes for Meeting of March 28, 2018

A. Review & Approve Minutes
The meeting minutes from November 29, 2017, December 27, 2017, and
February 28, 2018 were presented for discussion. A motion was made by Ms.
Kenmotsu to approve as submitted, Mr. Clay seconded. Motion carried.
B. Discuss Grant Opportunities
Ms. Kenmotsu made a motion to move forward with a grant application that
seeks historic registry for Fruit Row via DAHP grant opportunity, Ms. Pinkerton
seconded. Motion carries.
The commission requested more information on developing a "Naches Ave
Conservation District", and outreach to the property owners of Fruit Row making
sure there is support from the area for seeking historic registry.
Mr. Martin to schedule a meeting with interested community members of Naches
Ave to explore next step options for Naches Ave/Parkway before the next
scheduled Historic Preservation Commission meeting.

IV. Other Business
General Discussion of other items not on the agenda
Ms. Wahl and Ms. Kenmotsu spoke in remembrance of the legacy of Mr. Pasten,
a long time commission chair member who recently passed away.
Ms. Kenmotsu made a motion to present the City of Yakima's Historic
Preservation Commission Wilbur Award Proclamation to Karl Pasten, to be
presented to his family in tribute to the contributions Mr. Pasten made to historic
preservation in the City of Yakima. Mr. Clay seconded. Motion carries.
V. Citizen Participation
Three community members of the Naches Ave neighborhood spoke in favor of
moving forward with plans to establish the neighborhood as a historic district, as
well as their willingness to assist in community outreach and data collection;
Dawn King, Tami Brewer, and Ty Paxton.
VI. Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at approximately 6:17 p.m. to the next scheduled meeting
on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
