YAKIMA HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION CITY OF YAKIMA HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Minutes for Meeting on Jun 26, 2019, Call to Order Chair Leslie Wahl called the meeting to order at approximately 5:30 P.M. New Business Chair Leslie Wahl, Vice -Chair Cynthia Hall, Nancy Kenmotsu, Alixanne Pinkerton, Paul Edmondson, Joe Mann Quorum present Historic Preservation Liaison Trevor Martin Jason White, District 2 (absent) A. Grant Update (Fruit Row) — Meeting with Northwest Vernacular Spencer Howard of Northwest Vernacular provided an in-depth presentation on the "historic fruit row" inventory and described the next steps in the grant process. B. Member Search Martin reported that an application for appointment to the Historic Preservation has been submitted by Dawn King; the application will be reviewed by the city's Partnership Committee next month. Outreach efforts are ongoing to recruit more members to the Commission. In other business, Martin informed the Commission that the City of Yakima was awarded the grant for the Naches Parkway project. Commissioner Kenmotsu mentioned a magazine issued quarterly by the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation and commented that one of the issues referenced the inventory done by Artifacts Consulting Inc. in the Yakima Valley for traditional places for the Hispanic community. Kenmotsu spoke on how a similar survey could be done in Yakima. Commission Members 1 Nancy Kenmotsu • Leslie Wahl • Cynthia Hall • Alixanne Pinkerton • Paul Edmondson • Joe Mann Chair Wahl announced that her term on the Commission has come to an end and shared positive comments on her experiences being on the Commission. Commissioner Kenmotsu reported that this is also her last meeting and made positive remarks about the Commission as well. Commissioner Mann spoke on the history of the Lady Liberty statue on the Liberty Building (located on the corner of N 3rd St & Staff Sergeant Pendleton Way in Yakima) and voiced his desire for its return. IV. Citizen Participation None noted. V. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at approximately 6:27 p.m. to the next scheduled meeting on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
