YAKIMA HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION CITY OF YAKIMA HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Minutes for Meeting on March 27, 2019 CaII to Order Chair Leslie Wahl called the meeting to order at approximately 5:30 P.M. New Business Chair Leslie Wahl, Vice -Chair Cynthia Hall, Alixanne Pinkerton Nancy Kenmotsu, Paul Edmondson Quorum present Historic Preservation Liaison Trevor Martin Jason White, District 2 (absent) A. Grant Update Trevor Martin, Associate Planner, gave a brief status update on the grant with Northwest Vernacular to assess historic buildings on the portion of 1st Ave. in Yakima known as "fruit row". He reported that Spencer Howard of Northwest Vernacular will be in Yakima on March 28th at 11:00 a.m. to do a walkthrough of the buildings owned by Hollingbery and Son Inc. for initial assessment of their retained historic integrity. B. DAHP Grant 2020 Requests Martin announced that the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) 2020 grant requests are due April 26, 2019. The Commission discussed two options for the grant request, including a Naches Parkway inventory and an expansion of the Barge Chestnut neighborhood. Audience member Dawn King voiced support for the protection of the parkway and historic homes on Naches Ave. After further discussion, it was motioned by Chair Wahl and seconded by Commissioner Pinkerton to direct staff to apply for a grant for the Naches Parkway inventory survey; the motion carried unanimously. Commission Members Nancy Kenmotsu • Leslie Wahl • Cynthia Hall • Alixanne Pinkerton • Paul Edmondson Martin mentioned that a joint meeting with the Yakima Planning Commission will be scheduled later in the year to keep the Planning Commission informed on the fruit row project and on what ordinances may be adopted as a result of the project. Martin shared with the Commission information from the 2019 Main Street Conference he attended. C. Member Search Martin reported that he has not received any new applications for new members for the Historic Preservation Commission; outreach efforts are ongoing. IV. Citizen Participation Vicky Veldman spoke positively on the Naches Ave parkway and voiced her support for the grant proposal. V. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at approximately 5:52 p.m. to the next scheduled meeting on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
