The funds would be used to bring together the downtown community in partnership with service providers to address the issues of homeless individuals. Currently, the Yakima Police Department (YPD) is being relied on to respond to homeless.complaints. Having a coordinated effort in which businesses could gather and discuss issues to mitigate difficult situations would benefit the community and also relieve some of the numerous calls for service YPD is currently faced with. The Dispute Resolution Center is experienced in organizing and developing networks, hosting meetings and facilitating difficult situations. Therefore, the Yakima City Council is confident the DRC is the best agency for establishing this network and supports its grant request. Sincerely, Kathy Coffey Mayor
