BUSINESS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
YAKIMA, WASHINGTON
AGENDA STATEMENT
Item No. B.ii.
For Meeting of: May 7, 2019
ITEM TITLE: Introduction of Madeline Valdez, the City's nominee for the 2019
AWC Center for Quality Communities Scholarship
SUBMITTED BY: Randy Beehler, Communications & Public Affairs Director
SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
A.C. Davis High School senior Madeline Valdez is the City of Yakima's nominee for the 2019
Association of Washington Cities (AWC) Center for Quality Communities Scholarship. Madeline
had the highest cumulative score of all the applicants that submitted scholarship applications to
the City this year.
Madeline's commitment to pursuing a career in law in order to contribute to her community is
admirable. Her significant involvement in her community and her willingness to take on leadership
roles in the various organizations she is part of made Madeline stand out from the rest of the
applicants from our area. Not only has Madeline demonstrated her dedication to her school
community and the greater community at large, she has excelled in the classroom as a model
student.
This is the third year the City of Yakima has participated in the AWC Center for Qualities
Communities Scholarship process and is privileged to have an outstanding representative in
Madeline representing the City in 2019.
