HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks Commission minutes - 07-11-18.docx Yakima Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes for July 11, 2018 Commissioners Present: Vice Chairman Paul Williams, Jo Miles, Stacy Hackenmueller, Brynn Kloster, Roger Lewis, Rosana Bravo and Kay Funk, Yakima City Council Liaison Absent and Excused: Chairman Rod Bryant, Matt Tweedy and Joshua Korevaar-Dorsey Staff present: Ken Wilkinson, Parks & Recreation Manager and Jenise Sanders, Parks and Recreation Administrative Secretary Call to Order Welcoming everyone in the audience and viewers watching on YPAC, Vice Chairman Paul Williams called nd the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall in the Council Chambers, 129 North 2 Street, Yakima, Washington. Approval of the Meeting Minutes from May 9, 2018 It was Moved by Jo Miles, Seconded by Rosana, to approve the Minutes as written from the July 11, 2018 Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting. The motion carried unanimously. Introduction of New Parks & Recreation Youth Commissioner – Joshua Korevaar-Dorsey Ken Lions Park Playground Ken Randall Park Improvement Project Update th Ken stated that the project is nearing completion. The 44 Ave. parking lot is ready for curb and asphalt. The removal and excavation of the old parking lot is finished. The Streets Division will be doing the asphalt paving of the new parking lot. Ken reported that Braden Packard raised money to purchase and install dog agility equipment in the Randall Dog Park as an Eagle Scout Project. Ken stated crews are currently th putting in the sidewalk along the 48 Ave. parking lot. A ribbon cutting celebration will be planned for later this year, possibly October. Discussion followed. Ken advised that once it is finished, the project will have a total cost of approximately $1.4 million of which $300,000 will have come from Parks Capital funds over the last three years. The remainder was volunteer labor, donations and a grant from the State. Jo commented that this met the goal of applying capital funds into existing facilities.
