A RESOLUTION authorizing open cruising events to be held on June 15, July 13,
August 10, September 7 and September 14, 2019
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima ("City") has previously adopted ordinances
regulating cruising events, codified at Chapter 9.25 YMC; and
WHEREAS, various organizations have previously requested that Council
designate cruise night in the months of June, July, August and September on Yakima
Avenue from 6th Street to 7th Avenue, between the hours of 6 00 p m and 10:00 p m , to be
open to the public and subject to the special event provisions of Chapter 9 70 YMC, and
WHEREAS, YMC 9.25 020 provides that the City Council may approve open cruise
events from time to time pursuant to an adopted Resolution, subject to applicable provisions
of Chapter 9.70 YMC pertaining to special events, and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds and determines that approval of the proposed
open cruising events to be held June 15, June 22, July 13, August 10, September 7 and
September 14, as described above, is in the best interests of residents of the City of Yakima
and will promote the general health, safety and welfare, now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
the open cruising events shall be held between 6:00 p m and 10 00 p m on
Saturday, June 15, July 13, August 10, September 7 and September 14, 2019 on Yakima
Avenue between 6th Street and 7th Avenue, is hereby approved, subject to and conditioned
upon the applicant's compliance with all applicable provisions of Chapter 9 70 YMC
pertaining to special events.

ITEM TITLE: Resolution authorizing open cruising events in 2019

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
While "Cruising the Ave" is prohibited in the City of Yakima, Council retains the ability to allow
open cruising events from time to time for the benefit of the public by passing a Resolution as
noted in YMC 9.25.020. Local organizations have contacted the City about the 2019 cruise dates
and staff has determined the best dates to be June 15, July 13, August 10, September 7, 14,
and 21.
Council members need to decide if they 1) want to allow cruise nights to take place in 2019, and
2) if the dates above are acceptable. Yakima Police Department has not reported any incidents
during open cruise nights since Council has been approving these scheduled dates the past four
years.
