JUNE 13, 1980
The City Council met in session on this date in the Conference Roam at
City Hall, Yakima, Washington, for the purpose of meeting with the
County Cammissioners to discuss the ash disaster and costs involved.
Council members present were Mayor Betty L.-Edmondson, Lynn Buchanan,
Lynn Carmichael, Bruce Crest and Shirley Doty. Council members Henry
Beauchamp and Don Hinman absent.
County Canmissioners present were Les Conrad, Chuck Klarich, and Graham
Tollefson.
Mayor Edmondson reported on the resolution that was passed at the Con-
ference of Mayors which was introduced by Seattle Mayor Royer requesting
90% for the matching federal relief funds. Mayor Edmondson reported
that she was told by a White House representative that most of the
disaster areas get a total of 90% of the cost through various agencies.
II/ FEMA is not the only agency with disaster funds.
City Manager Zais stated that the purpose of this meeting is to share
the -City's estimates of costs and economic impact on the City. He
stated that he also wants to discuss the ineligible costs. He reported
on changes in the 6/13/80 volcanic disaster estimates report: Exhibit C
Which adds an item, (reading across) "damage to traffic signals --
$100,000, 0 $25,000, $5,000." This changes the subtotal to read
$3,240,000, $135,000, $776,250, and $911,250. Changes in Exhibit A are
to change $973,400 to $1,011,900, and $1,469,820 to $1,494,820. He
stated that Exhibit B information, on the week by week expenses are
based on total expenditures, including ineligible costs, etc. On Page 2
of Exhibit B we have forecast expenses through the end of the month.
City Manager Zais reviewed the reports, detailing each Exhibit. He
stated that it would take sane time to get a more accurate cost of the
damage to the Plant. He stated that he doesn't know the interim
financing will be.
There being no formal action to take, meeting wa adjourned at the
hour of 11:50 A.M.
