HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/13/1975 Adjourned Meeting 4- ) 11 11 FEBRUARY 13, 1975 ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING - THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1975 The City Council met in session at 4:00 P.M. on this date in the Council Chambers at Yakima City Hall. Councilmen present at the meeting were Mayor Bert Broad, Wray Brown, Dick Jarms, W. K. "Pete" Moore, Don Schussler and Bill Simmons. Councilman Edmondson absent. Council members reviewed the proposed Human Relations Commission and Officer position, discussing both alternatives in terms of who the Officer should report to 7 i e , the City Manager or Council The Council also discussed the job description requirement that the Human Relations Officer be of a college background. Dr. Simmons expressed the concern that such criteria would be overly restrictive and eliminate many qualified candidates. It was MOVED by Jarms, seconded by Schussler that the proposal for a Human Relations Officer position under the City Manager, be approved. It was then MOVED by Simmons, seconded by Brown that the Motion be amended to provide for leniency in terms of qualifications, suggesting that equivilent work experience also be considered in the Officer requirements: carried, Broad, Brown, Jarms, Moore, Schussler and Simmons voting aye by voice vote. Edmondson absent. The Motion, as amended, was carried, Broad, Brown, Jarms, Moore, Schussler and Simmons voting aye by voice vote. Edmondson absent. The Council discussed the need to dissolve the Task Force and dismiss them from their responsibilities. Councilman Moore asked that Task 'Force members be invited to meet with the Council at the next evening Council meeting to discharge them of their responsibilities and to convey thanks for their performance. Council members concurred. Subsequent discussion on the organization and composition of the Commission was approved. It was MOVED by Schussler, seconded by Simmons that authorization be given for the Human Relations Commis- sion and Human Relations Officer: carried, Broad, Brown, Jarms, Moore, Schussler and Simmons voting aye by voice vote. Edmondson absent. 'There being no further business to come before the Council, it was MOVED by Simmons, seconded by Schussler that we do now adjourn at the hour of 5:00 P.M.: carried, Broad, Brown, Jarms, Moore, Schussler and Simmons voting aye by voice vote.
