Here are the three trailered signs I observed over the course of the
last two weeks driving around Yakima, including the length of 11t
Street, Fruitvale, Summitview, Nob Hill and Washington.
The sign to the left is in the parking lot on 3rd Avenue between
Walnut and Chestnut. One half advertises a telecommunications
company and the other half is blank and damaged.
The sign to the right is located at RJ's Tire Factory on West
Nob Hill Blvd, which is next to Burger King and across from
Starbucks. The sign is not being used, and is not on wheels.
It is located within the parking lot and not heavily visible
from Nob Hill Blvd.
The sign to the left is located on South 1St Street at the Westfair Shopping
Center. It is double sided with information on both sides, and advertising
America's Window Tinting and Graphics and Backwoods Cafe. I spoke with
someone at the sign company and he indicated that they do make the sign
face. They do not provide the trailer or structure. He said that he doesn't
know anyone who will make one at a time in Yakima, although did mention
that he thinks they can be bulk ordered (the trailers and sign structures) from
someone in Yakima. The dimensions of the sign are 4'x 8'.
I contacted Eagle Signs, who indicated they do not manufacture trailered signs. The woman I spoke with
didn't know anyone in town who did, and thought that most people who had them made them
themselves. Cascade Signs similarly responded. Advanced Digital Imaging also makes sign faces and
frames, but does not make a sign on a trailer.
I also contacted UC Signs, which indicated that it has, in the past, manufactured signs on trailers and if
someone asked them to build a sign on a trailer that they would be happy to do so. They said that the 4
x 8 size is reasonable for the normal size trailer used and that these signs are useful for temporary
seasonal events like corn mazes and haunted houses, which run over the course of a few weeks and
then close.
Everyone I spoke with was invited to the Planning Commission meeting.
