In addition to these regular amendments, the state Growth Management Act (GMA) requires counties and cities to periodically _ conduct a thorough review of their pla,i and regulations to bring them up to date with any relevant changes in the GMA, and to respond to-hanges in land use a.nd population gro%A?lh. The Yakima Urban Area Comprehensive Plan 2073 is the City's adopted coi-nrehensive plan and was last "Updated" i,i 2006. The City of Yakima is mandated to conduct another period'c updated to be completed by June 30th, 2017, and every eight years after that. Transportation: an inventory of air, water and ground transportation facilities and services, including transit alignment and the airport facilities, to define existing capital facilities and travel levels and basis for future planning. (Including state owned transportation facilities) The GMA now requires the Transportation Element to include a pedestrian and bicycle component. And utilizes Goals and Policies to drive development regulations Et decisions. Internal consistency: because the Land Use Element is tied to other elements in the comprehensive plan, many periodic updates include amendments to the Land Use Element. Mapping of land use designations, and the future shape of the community. Resource lands, critical areas, open space corridors, mixed use areas, residential, commercial, industrial, and major public and private facilities should all be addressed. Recent amendments to the GMA now require communities to consider urban planning approaches that promote physical activit as part of the land use element wherever possible.
