Meeting Minutes of October 21, 2013
Call to Order
Chairman Ben Shoval called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m.
Staff Announcements
Jeff announced that there is a public hearing for the cell tower ordinance on October 23,
2013. He wants a continuation of the public hearing on October 28, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. so
the document can be finished in time.
Presentation- Citv of Yakima Downtown Master Plan (Crandall Arambula
The team presented a slide show of retail analysis for Yakima. They determined that the
demand in Yakima is new retail in the downtown area. They recommended specific
actions and strategies for the City including
• Set up a retail task force
• Embed the retail positioning frame work into a downtown zoning ordinance
• Establish policies and criteria that provide a framework for incentives for the
establishment and revitalization of retail development
• Facilitate the temporary use and lease of underutilized parking and other vacant
spots
• Publication of the Downtown Yakima Master Plan and proactively engage in
specific marketing strategies.
• Identify potential sponsors and sponsorship opportunities
They also provided a timeline using these strategies and some ground rules.
The next presentation was the Master Plan itself with visualizations. One of the big
issues discussed was parking for customers and for employees.
Adjourn
A motion to adjourn to October 23, 2013, was passed with unanimous vote. This
meeting adjourned at 3:21 p.m.
