ITEM TITLE: Public Hearing to consider comments on a City of Yakima
moratorium from accepting any new development applications or
permits for Extended Stay Hotels

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
On June 22, 2018, the Yakima City Council adopted a moratorium (Ordinance No. 2018-022)
prohibiting the acceptance of any additional permits or applications for extended stay hotels or
motels. Extended stay use was defined as lodging accommodations or lodging and meals, for
more than 30 consecutive days. The purpose of the public hearing is to receive comments on the
moratorium.

Accept public comments and formalize Moratorium. Direct the City Planning Commission to
prepare proposed amendments to the City Codes and zoning regulations to address the
definition and regulation of extended stay hotels.
