For Meeting of: July 17, 2018 ITEM TITLE: Public Hearing to consider comments on a City of Yakima moratorium from accepting any new development applications or permits for Extended Stay Hotels SUBMITTED BY: Joan Davenport, Director of Community Development Sara Watkins, Senior Assistant City Attorney SUMMARY EXPLANATION: On June 22, 2018, the Yakima City Council adopted a moratorium (Ordinance No. 2018-022) prohibiting the acceptance of any additional permits or applications for extended stay hotels or motels. Extended stay use was defined as lodging accommodations or lodging and meals, for more than 30 consecutive days. The purpose of the public hearing is to receive comments on the moratorium. ITEM BUDGETED: STRATEGIC PRIORITY: Neighborhood and Community Building APPROVED FOR SUBMITTAL: STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Accept public comments and formalize Moratorium. Direct the City Planning Commission to prepare proposed amendments to the City Codes and zoning regulations to address the definition and regulation of extended stay hotels.
