WIFERMS, the month of June was designated Pride Month to commemorate
the Stonewa((riots which occurred in June of 1969 and are generally recognized as the
catalyst of the LG�7R R. hts Movement; and
PWIERMS, "every individual is equaC before and under the Caw and has the
right to equaC protection and equaC benefit of the Caw without discrimination based on
race, nationa(or ethnic origin, color, religion, se.,G age, or menta(or physical disability;
and
PWIERMS, the long and ongoing struggle of transgender, lesbian, gay,
6isevta(, and other sevta( minorities for basic civil and human rights continues to
provide inspiration to a(4 and
WIFERMS, Yakima celebrates the history and diversity of our City's lesbian,
gay, 6isevta(, transgender, community and promotes a society in which a((residents can
live free from discrimination; and
WIFERMS, Pride month is an opportunity to celebrate this harmony in which
we coexist,
WOW,D[ERETO12E, 1, Kathy Coffey, Mayor of the City of Yakima and on
behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2018 as
"LGOTQ PRIDE MOV79f"
in the City of Yakima and encourage everyone to eliminate prejudice everywhere it
exists, respect the rights of al(peop(e, and to celebrate the great diversity of our city.
