For Meeting of: May 15, 2018 ITEM TITLE: Missing and Unidentified Persons Awareness proclamation SUBMITTED BY: Cally Price, Assistant to the City Manager SUMMARY EXPLANATION: Michelle Joe to accept proclamation ITEM BUDGETED: STRATEGIC PRIORITY: APPROVED FOR SUBMITTAL: STAFF RECOMMENDATION: BOARD/COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: ATTACHMENTS: Description Upload Date Type d Missing and unidentified persons proc 5/10/2018 Coker Memo 2 CITY OE YAKIMA P12,OCLAWlA7IOTr PWFE1cjEAS, every missing person is someone's son or daughter, father or mother, brother or sister, husband or wife, and there are families in Washington State dealing with the profound devastation of a loved one that is missing with more than 100 persons remaining to 6e identified; and PWFEREAS, law enforcement relies on the community and media as partners in the search for missing persons and, in particular, for those whose cases remain open; and PJFEREAS, all missing persons should 6e reported to the police as soon as possible, with information such as the last known location and a physical description that includes what clothing the person was wearing, and it is important to keep current photos of loved ones avada6le to provide should they go missing; and WiFEREAS, families can take steps to prevent child abduction 6y knowing where their children play, knowing who their friends are and talking with them about their safety at home, at school, and on the internet; and PJFEREAS, all missing persons deserve to 6e searched for, regardless of their age, and our awareness, support, efforts and search for missing persons must continue, it is crucial that we keep missing persons awareness a priority in our communities; and W EREAS, this proclamation invites and urges citizens, law enforcement, agencies, family services and other suitable organization to observe Missing and Vnidentified Persons Month through appropriate activities, WOW,, `ZJf?ERETO12E, 17Kathy Coffey, Mayor of the City of Yakima and on behalf of the Yakima City Council, do hereby proclaim May 2018 as agYISSIgVr AND V9VIDENTIEIED PE $O,9V'S 9140.9V7M" in the City of Yakima and askallpeople to join me in this special observance.
