Introductions White called the meeting to order and welcomed all the Committee members. Committee members introduced themselves, gave their background, and reason(s) why they are interested in serving on the Committee. 2. Appoint chair, vice chair and secretary The Committee members agreed that this should be moved to the next meeting when all vacancies are filled. Currently, there is one vacancy on the Committee. 3. Select Terms This discussion was postponed to the next meeting. 4. Review Ordinance No. 2017-034 5. Review exploratory committee's final report Laura Armstrong served on the exploratory committee and provided the background information on the committee and its tasks. She identified the three key areas the group focused on: • Integration Lens on Policy Making • Sense of Belonging and Civic Pride • Community Outreach and Education 3 Committee members asked questions about the exploratory committee, its work, and the final report. 6. Review meeting dates/times The committee is scheduled to meet the second Monday of every month at 5:30. Committee members agreed that the date and time will work. 7. Other business Committee members would like to have training on the Open Public Meetings Act and board structure/responsibilities. Legal staff and communications staff will provide training at the April meeting. One member stated she would like the Committee to have some cultural awareness training. Since there isn't a budget this training would have to be complimentary or the Council would have to authorize funds. 8. Adjournment The next meeting is scheduled for April 9 from 5:30 to 7:00 in Council Chambers. YAKIMA CITY COUNCIL STUDY SESSION May 10, 2018 City Hall -- Council Chambers 4 p.m. Council Briefing 1.
