WI -PERMS, the Congress and President of the V nited States have designated May 15 as
Peace Officers' Memoria(Day, and the weekin which May 15fa(Cs as .9\rationa(Law
Enforcement Appreciation Weed; and
ZLEREAS, the members of the Yakima Police Department p(ay an essentia(ro(e in
safeguarding the rights and freedoms of the citizens of Yakima; and
ZLEREAS, it is important that all citizens know and understand the duties,
responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of their Caw enforcement agency, and that members of
our Caw enforcement agency recognize their duty to serve the people 6y safeguarding fife and
property, 6y protecting them against violence and disorder, and 6y protecting the innocent
against deception, and the weakagainst oppression; and
WI -PERMS, the men and women of the Yakima cFolice Department unceasingly provide a
vitalpublic service,

commemorating Caw enforcement officers, past and present, who, 6y their faithfu(and Coya(
devotion to their responsibilities, have rendered a dedicated service to their communities and, in
so doing, have established for themselves an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving
the rights and security of all citizens.
I further caCCupon a(Ccitizens of Yakima to observe Tuesday, May 15 as Peace Officers'
Memoria[Day in honor of those Caw enforcement officers who, through their courageous deeds,
have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community or have become disa6Ced in the
performance of duty, and Cet us recognize and pay respect to the survivors of our fallen heroes.
