Item No. B.i.
For Meeting of: April 17, 2018
ITEM TITLE: Introduction of Savannah Kimzey, the City of Yakima's 2018 AWC
Scholarship nominee
SUBMITTED BY: Randy Beehler, Communications & Public Affairs Director
SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The City of Yakima is proud to submit West Valley High School Senior Savannah Kimzey as the
City's nominee for the 2018 AWC Center for Quality Communities Scholarship. Savannah had
the highest cumulative score of all the applicants that submitted scholarship applications to the
City this year.
Savannah's essay tells the story of her impressive service to La Casa Hogar, a local non-profit
organization committed to providing valuable services to the sizable Yakima -area Latino
community, particularly women and children. The success of La Casa Hogar is due, in large part,
to the unwavering commitment of Savannah and many other dedicated volunteers who believe
providing opportunities to Yakima's Latino community is critical to our community's success.
This is the second year the City of Yakima has participated in the AWC Center for Qualities
Communities Scholarship process, and everyone who was involved in reviewing and scoring the
scholarship applications feels privileged to have an outstanding representative in Savannah
representing the City in its sophomore year of involvement.
