June 9, 2016
Meeting convened at 11:10 a.m.
Council present: Avina Gutierrez, Holly Cousens and Bill Lover
Staff present: Sonya Claar Tee
Council members reviewed applications for Boards and Committees and made the following
recommendations:
Arts Commission
It was Committee consensus to ratify the Museum appointment of Andy Granitto and the Season's
appointment of Jason Kildall. Gutierrez moved and Lover seconded to reappoint Melissa Labberton
and Noel Moxley and to appoint Stephanie Clevenger to the vacancy. The motion carried by
unanimous vote.
Board of Appeals
Lover moved and Gutierrez seconded to reappoint Barbara Cline, Jim Johnston and James Fickel.
The motion carried by unanimous vote.
Community Review Board
Gutierrez moved and Lover seconded to reappoint Dinah Reed and review the other term expiration
at their next meeting. The motion carried by unanimous vote.
Lodging Tax Advisory Committee
Lover moved and Cousens seconded to appoint Wanda Reil as a representative of a business
required to collect lodging tax and Greg Lybeck, with the SunDome, as a representative involved in
activities authorized to be funded by the revenue received from the lodging tax. The motion carried
by a 2-1 vote, Gutierrez voting no.
Parks & Recreation Committee
Gutierrez moved and Cousens seconded to reappoint Matt Tweedy. The motion carried by
unanimous vote. Lover moved and Gutierrez seconded to reappoint Jo Miles. The motion carried by
unanimous vote. It was Committee consensus to interview Carmela Solorzano and Stacy
Hackenmueller for the vacant position.
Planning Commission
It was Committee consensus to interview the following applicants for the expiring terms and the
vacancy: Al Rose, Patricia Byers, Shannon Bird, Isaac Garcia, Tom Trepanier, Sandra Martensen
and Nicholas Arnold.
Public Facilities District
Lover moved and Gutierrez seconded to reappoint Angie Girard. The motion carried by unanimous
vote.
SE Community Center
Lover moved and Gutierrez seconded to reappoint Melissa Furneaux. The motion carried by
unanimous vote.
Yakima Historic Preservation Commission
Gutierrez moved and Cousens seconded to appoint Molly Storrs to the vacancy and to review the
term expiration position at their next meeting. The motion carried by unanimous vote
OTHER BUSINESS
It was Committee consensus to only review applicants that are not on other Committees. Clerk Claar
Tee notified the Board of a recent vacancy on the Housing Authority Board due to an unexpected
death.
