1) Review applications (attached in alphabetical order) for vacancies on the following committees:
Arts Commission – one vacancy and two terms expiring (both seeking reappointment)

Requirements: Four year term. Voting members shall include no less than thirteen and no more than
fifteen members, comprised as follows:
Two working artists (“working artist” shall be a person who has had their works of art exhibited
in professional gallery spaces and/or has had their work included in professionally juried
exhibitions or permanent collections)
Four to six community members, of which at least three shall be residents of the city of
Yakima. The community m embers shall be from diverse backgrounds and shall have no vested
interest in any particular art or cultural endeavor
Six persons, each of whom represents one of the following six professionally staffed local arts
organizations: the Yakima Symphony Orchest ra, the Capitol Theatre, Allied Arts of Yakima
Valley, the Seasons Music Festival, the Larson Gallery, and the Yakima Valley Museum (If any
of the local arts organizations listed in subsection (3) above fails to present a person qualified
to be appointed as the member representing the interests of such organization on the
commission within sixty (60) days after notification by certified mail, return receipt requested,
from the commission that such vacancy exists, the City Council may appoint an additional
community member, or working artist who works in the general field of that local arts
organization. Upon qualification and appointment of such community member or working
artist, such community member or working artist shall serve the full term of the posi tion of
member representing such local arts organization)
Board of Appeals – five terms expiring (three are seeking reappointment)
The following terms expire 6/30/16:

James Fickel, construction – has reapplied

The two Board members whose terms are not expiring consist of a plumber and representative of
the building industry. If Jim Johnson (general public/local resident) is reappointed, the other
applicants do not appear to meet the requirements. If Ms. Cline and Mr. Fickel are reappointed, this
Board still needs either an engineer, a mechanical contractor or a developer.
Requirements: Three year term. The board of appeals shall consist of seven members who are
qualified by experience and training to pass on matters pertaining to building construction and are
not employees of the jurisdiction, and who shall be appointed from the following areas: one
architect; one engineer; one building and construction contractor; one developer; one representative
from the general public; one Washington State journeyman plumber; and one Washington state
journeyman mechanical contractor. No term limit.
Community Review Board – two terms expiring (both seeking reappointment)

Requirements: Three year term. Members must represent different aspects of the public as a whole
including local residents, the building industry, the health community, the business community, and
the residential rental community, but not more than two from any of these. No term limit.
Lodging Tax Advisory Committee -- two vacancies

Requirements: Two year term. One vacancy for A) a member who is a representatives of
businesses required to collect lodging tax, and B) one vacancy for a member involved in activities
authorized to be funded by the revenue received from the lodging tax. Persons eligible for
appointment under A are not eligible for appointment under B. Persons eligible for appointment
under B are not eligible for appointment under A. No term limits.
Parks & Recreation Committee -- one vacancy and two terms expiring (both seeking
reappointment)
The following terms expire 6/20/16:

Requirements: Four year term. Shall not be members of the legislative authority of the Cities of
Selah, Union Gap, or Yakima at any time while serving on the Board. Must have knowledge and/or
experience in tourism, convention, and/or related business. Diversity of backgrounds, ethnici ty,
gender, education, cultures, industries, business experience, etc. desirable. Must be bondable. No
term limit.
SE Community Center – two terms expiring (one seeking reappointment)

Requirements: Four year term. Appointees are based upon the recommendations of the Board of

Requirements: Four year term. The Commission shall always include at least three professionals
who have experience in identifying, evaluating, and protecting historic resources and are selected
from among the disciplines of history, architecture, architectural history, landscape architecture,
historic preservation, planning, folklore, cultural anthropo logy, prehistoric and historic archaeology,
American studies, curation, traditional building crafts, the practice of historic rehabilitation or
restoration, finance and banking, law, and real estate, or related disciplines. No term limit.
