Executive Minutes
Coffey called the meeting to order.
Moore introduced and welcomed Don Meseck, Regional Labor Economist with Employment
Security Department.
Review minutes from September 28, 2017 meeting. Cousens motioned to accept the
September 28, 2017 minutes as presented and Coffey seconded. The minutes were
approved.
Discussion Items:
1. Presentation: Yakima County Economic Update
Meseck gave a short background of his experience and duties with the Employment
Security Department. He then reviewed a powerpoint summarizing Yakima County's
economic statistics related to employment. Additional information can be obtained at

Update Items:
1. 21st Avenue and Airport Lane Development Opportunities
Peterson updated on the status of the 21st Avenue improvements that were included in the
2017 Airport Master Plan and funded by the SIED Board. There is a lot of interest in the
properties and leases are being finalized with parties wishing to expand or relocate
operations.
2. Truck Route Ad Hoc Committee November 2
Hawkins reported that the first meeting will be November 2 at 3:00. As of this meeting
date, six people are confirmed. Staff will discuss some of the issues with truck routes in
Yakima and obtain feedback from participants. Any changes would need to be approved
by the full Council.
3. Valley Brewing Company SIED Application
Hawkins reported that Valley Brewing Company's SIED Application was successful and
thanked Jonathan Smith for his assistance. The business has started operations at its new
facility.
4. November and December 2017 Meeting Dates
Hawkins asked the Committee members to consider combining the November and
December meetings into one. The regularly scheduled meeting in November falls on
Thanksgiving and the December meeting is the week of Christmas. The Committee
members decided to have one meeting on December 7t1.

Coffey reported that the Strategic Plan subgroups met together and provided updates on their
assignments. She found this discussion to be very informative and recommends that the group
meet on a quarterly basis.
