For Meeting of: November 21, 2017 ITEM TITLE: Prevention Club Awards, presentation by ESD #105 SUBMITTED BY: Cliff Moore, City Manager SUMMARY EXPLANATION: Safe Yakima YOUTH Coalition along with ESD 105 and the Davis High School CCAN Club (connecting compassionate, aspiring navigators) -a high school club focused on underage drug prevention would like to recognize students for dedication to community efforts to decrease underage substance use. Gabby Galindo, a sophomore at Davis will introduce the club with a poem written by a fellow club member (wishes to remain anonymous). This will be followed by Nya Galindo, a Sophomore at Davis High School and Jose Cordova, a Senior at Davis High School who will present about community issues affecting teens. Next will be Ciara Brown, a Sophomore at Davis High School will present an "Investing in the Future Award" to Washington Middle School for their investment in Strengthening Families Classes. Receiving the awards for WA Middle School are: Arlene Franz, Julio Sanchez, Bill Hilton, and Letty Hernandez. Miss Brown will then present the "Volunteer Excellence Award" to Davis High School CCAN Club members for summer volunteer hours. Awards are going to: Zahira Flores, Junior; Victor Morales, Junior; Dominick Olives, Sophomore; Elias Prieto, Senior; Melanie Prieto, Junior; Victoria Sanchez, Sophomore and Danny Torres, Junior. Gaby Galindo, Sophomore at Davis High School will make closing remarks. Safe Yakima YOUTH Coalition has shared the links for the 2017 Community Survey distributed by the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery below and would like to make a presentation on the results in May.
