contributions they make to our CocaCeconomy and community; and
ZWEEEAS, according to the V.S. SmaCCBusiness Administration, there are currently
28.8 million smalT6usinesses in the `JnitecdStates; and
ZV.JfEREAS, sma(C businesses employ over 48 percent of the employees in the private
sector in the Vnited States; and
ZV.JfEREAS, on average, 33 percent of consumers' holiday shopping wi(C6e done at
sma(C, independently -owned retailers and restaurant; and
WREREAS, 91 percent of aCCconsumers believe that supporting sma(C, independent(y-
owned restaurants and bars is important; and
PWLEREAS, 76 percent of aCCconsumers plan to go to one or more sma(C6usinesses as
part of their ho&iday shopping; and
PWLEREAS, the City of Yakima supports our (oca( 6usinesses that create jobs, boost
our CocaCeconomy and preserve our neighborhoods; and
PWLEREAS, advocacy groups as we(Cas public and private organizations across the
country have endorsed the Saturday after Thanksgiving as SmaCCBusiness Saturday.
