For Meeting of: October 17, 2017 Resolution authorizing the Chief of Police's execution of the Provisional State and Local Task Force Agreement and Addendum No. 1 to the Provisional State and Local Task Force Agreement with the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration SUBMITTED BY: Chief Dominic Rizzi, Yakima Police Department Bronson Faul, Senior Assistant City Attorney SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The referenced agreement and addendum are an annual renewal between the City of Yakima and the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration. The agreement and addendum provide a more formal organization in order to centralize supervision and enhance the efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat controlled substance trafficking in the community. The agreement and addendum are on file in the City Clerk's office. R -2017 - RESOLUTION authorizing the Chief of Police's execution of the Provisional State and Local Task Force Agreement and Addendum No. 1 to the Provisional State and Local Task Force Agreement with the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration WHEREAS, the agreement is an annual renewal of the parties agreement which provides a more formal organization in order to centralize supervision and enhance the efforts of the law enforcement agencies to combat controlled substance trafficking; and WHEREAS, illegal sale and use of controlled substances in the City of Yakima has serious and adverse affects on the quality of life in the City of Yakima; and WHEREAS, the City of Yakima has determined it is in the best interest of the City to devote resources in fighting the problems caused by the illegal sale and use of controlled substances; and WHEREAS, the City and USDOJ through their law enforcement agencies have maintained a cooperative working agreement designed to combat controlled substance traffic within the City of Yakima; and WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of the City to approve the agreements, now, therefore; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The Chief of Police is authorized to execute the following agreements: Provisional State and Local Task Force Agreement, and Addendum No 1 to Provisional State and Local Task Force Agreement, which are by reference made a part hereof, such agreements are hereby approved from such date of execution.
