Unanimous approval: 4-0. 2. Icebreaker: what did you do over the weekend? a. Arthur, Rachel, Anita, Tiffany, Laura 3. Old Business a. Pilot Survey i. City Manager has made all councilmembers aware of the survey. ii. CIEC is now able to go out into the community to ask these questions with the understanding that it's not scientifically -designed. iii. Brainstormed community events for conducting survey: 1. We are able to use the City of Yakima logo at the top of our survey. v. Should have at least one bilingual representative at each shift. vi. Please wear name badges when conducting survey. vii. Please print Spanish and English copies for your shift. viii. Tiffany will send an email with the survey shift schedule. 4. New Business a. Anita is almost finished translating the survey into Spanish. She distributed copies for review by the committee. She will send out a final copy before Sunday. b. Those who conduct surveys should tabulate their data in time for discussion at the next meeting. c. The committee discussed how to conduct interviews with organizations and local programs. i. Connect with businesses, vendors, organizations at the public events that we're attending for surveying. We could give them the survey as well. ii. Opportunity to find out what is already being done to improve community integration iii. Ask: What are you doing that is successful, and what isn't? Do you feel people know about your organization? iv. Brandy has offered to talk to Downtown Association and some City employees v. Information may be included in final report; will discuss further in September d. Discussion on final report, direction of future committee i. CIEC is hopeful that the survey, an opportunity to hear from Yakima residents directly, will provide more insight for the final report. ii. Give examples of strategies under each objective iii. Propose structural changes to the committee (interview process, number of committee members, etc.) iv. Provide justification of staff time (budget) and prove that the CIC is not a duplicate of another committee and that there is enough interest and need for a new committee, or suggest how these tasks could be added to another committee v. Determine what the City's role is in CIC work. Could these tasks be better addressed by Chamber, School District, a nonprofit, etc.? vi. The CIEC still plans to present to the NCBC on September 21 regardless of final presentation date in October. Sara will have CIEC added to the agenda. e. Approval of 7/24/2017 Meeting Minutes i.
