For Meeting of: September 19, 2017 Hanshi Morris Mack Day Proclamation Randy Beehler, Communications & Public Affairs Director SUMMARY EXPLANATION: Hanshi Morris Mack opened the Yakima School of Karate in 1961 and operated it continuously until shortly before he passed away on August 14th, 2017. Hanshi Mack was a respected and renowned visionary within the martial arts community regionally, nationally, and internationally. His extraordinary impact on the Yakima community extended well beyond the dojo and inspired everyone who encountered him to constantly seek out opportunities to be of service to others. In honor of the tremendous contributions Hanshi Mack made to the Yakima community, to martial arts, and to the world, September 19th, 2017 will be proclaimed "Hanshi Morris Mack Day" by the Yakima City Council at its business meeting that same day. Shihan Kara Mack, Hanshi Mack's wife, will be accepting the proclamation.
