Council Members present: Bill Lover, Dave Ettl
Staff: Michael Morales, Archie Matthews, Vaughn McBride
Public Input for Annual Action Plan: Archie Matthews reported on the 2011 Annual Action
Plan. Chairman Lover opened the meeting for public comment. There were no citizen
comments. The next public input meeting will be September 1 at. 6:00 p.m., in Council
Chambers. This evening meeting will replace the morning meeting for September only.
Following the public comment period, Council will hold a public hearing and adopt the plan.
Other Business: Vaughn McBride talked about the proposal to establish design review
guidelines for the Barge Chestnut neighborhood that came before the City Council in July.
Council remanded the matter to be heard at a joint meeting of the Historic Preservation
Commission and the Neighborhood Development Committee. The joint meeting has been
tentatively scheduled for the evening of August 25. Vaughn reported that the neighborhood
is working on the final draft. Councilmember EttI encouraged visual examples of the various
types of projects that could be covered by the guidelines for the meeting.
• Chairman Lover reported that the Historic Preservation Commission has asked to put the
Kiwanis Park Incinerator in the City's Historic Register. Mr. Lover will ask the City Council to
allow the formation of an ad hoc committee to study the rehabilitation of the structure. Also,
the Historic Preservation Commission and the Yakima Trolley Association would like to work
together toward a feasibility study for a downtown trolley run.
Michael Morales reported that the HUD Seattle office conducted a monitoring visit July 28-
30. The reviewed a variety of activities. We should receive their report within a month or
so.
The next meeting of the Council Neighborhood Development Committee will be
Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers. It will be a Public
Input Meeting for the Annual Action Plan.
