Eastside poo discussion Public Works Director Schafer gave a brief history on pools in Yakima. Ken Wilkinson, Parks and Recreation Manager, reviewed a PowerPoint presentation regarding pools and potential Iocations on the eastside. Assistant Mayor Mendez shared her concern that the focus was on an aquatic center and not on a neighborhood or community pool. After further discussion, it was Council consensus to receive additional information on Raymond, Gardner and the SE Community Center parks and to establish an ad hoc committee on the issue. Stacy Hackenmueller, member of the Parks and Recreation Commission, gave a recap of the Parks and Recreation Commission's meeting on the subject, which revolved around the following: clear funding plan and cost; attractive and modern design elements; building community support; sustainability; how to generate revenue; benefits of purchasing land; and, walking distance to the pool. Ms. Hackenmueller suggested the ad hoc committee should research what a neighborhood p001 looks like. Ester Huey, City resident, stated her support for a community pool but cautioned against short changing the eastside with amenities. She also suggested involving youth on the ad hoc committee. MOTION: Mendez moved and Cousens seconded to create an adhoc committee regarding eastside swimming pools with A. Gutierrez, D. Gutierrez and Cousens as Council representatives. The motion carried by a 5-1 vote, with Lover voting no and Adkison absent. Adjournment 120 MOTION: Mendez moved and Cousens seconded to adjourn to a Council Study Session on June 6, 2017, at 4 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
