For Meeting of: May 16, 2017 ITEM TITLE: Resolution authorizing an addendum to the agreement with the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Yakima Police Department SUBMITTED BY: Chief Dominic Rizzi, Yakima Police Department Bronson Faul, Senior Assistant City Attorney SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The addendum is a minor modification to the Provisional — Funded State and Local Task Force Agreement between the City of Yakima and the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration. The addendum provides for three experienced officers be detailed to the DEA Taskforce for no less than two years and beginning on October 1, 2016. The officers will be under the direct supervision and control of DEA supervisory personnel during this period. The addendum is on file in the City Clerk's office. R -2017 - RESOLUTION authorizing an addendum to the agreement between the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Yakima Police Department. WHEREAS, the parties agreement provides a more formal organization in order to centralize supervision and enhance the efforts of the law enforcement agencies to combat controlled substance trafficking; and WHEREAS, illegal sale and use of controlled substances in the City of Yakima has serious and adverse affects on the quality of life in the City of Yakima; and WHEREAS, the City of Yakima has determined it is in the best interest of the City to devote resources in fighting the problems caused by the illegal sale and use of controlled substances; and WHEREAS, the City and USDOJ through their law enforcement agencies have maintained a cooperative working agreement designed to combat controlled substance traffic within the City of Yakima; and WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of the City to authorize the addendum to the agreement by the City of Yakima Police Chief, now, therefore; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The Chief of Police is hereby authorized to execute Addendum No 2 To Provisional — Funded State And Local Task Force Agreement, which is by reference made a part hereof.
