HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2025-180 Resolution accepting donation from Forbes Mercy for the purchase and installation of an Outdoor Gym at Chesterley Park and to fund other programs and servicesA RESOLUTION and RESOLUTION NO. 2025-180 authorizing the City of Yakima to accept a donation from Forbes Mercy in the sum of $115,000 for use in purchasing and installing an outdoor exercise gym at Chesterley Park and to be used for other programs and services. WHEREAS, the City owns Chesterley Park, located at 3800 River Road, Yakima, WA; WHEREAS, A donation from Forbes Mercy in the sum of One Hundred Fifteen, Thousand Dollars ($115,000.00) to purchase and install outdoor exercise gym equipment at Chesterley Park; and to be used for other services and programs; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Yakima finds that it is in the best interests of its residents to accept the donation, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The City Manager is hereby authorized to accept the donation from Forbes Mercy to be used to purchase and install the outdoor exercise gym equipment at Chesterley Park and other programs and services. For Meeting of: December 9, 2025 ITEM TITLE:Resolution authorizing acceptance of a donation of $115,000 from Forbes Mercy for the purchase and installation of an Outdoor Gym at Chesterley Park and to fund other programs and services SUBMITTED BY:Scott Schafer, Director of Public Works * Ken Wilkinson, Parks & Recreation Manager BUSINESS OF THE CITY COUNCIL YAKIMA, WASHINGTON AGENDA STATEMENT SUMMARY EXPLANATION: A donation from Forbes Mercy has been given in the amount of $115,000 for the purchase and installation of outdoor exercise gym equipment at Chesterley Park and other programs and services. The donation is over $50,000 and requires acceptance by City Council. The exercise area will consist of various non-moving equipment for park users to access for various types of physical fitness exercises. Park Maintenance staff will assist with the installation. The proposed plan and equipment drawings have been enclosed for City Council review. The equipment is stationary and durable and will not create additional operating cost. In addition to the outdoor gym equipment, Mr. Mercy has indicated that he would like the additional funds to pay for items such as the domestic water for the irrigation at Tahoma Cemetery, Youth Sports activities, funds to assist with the cost for the flowers in downtown Yakima, the Fourth of July fireworks, etc. He has challenged the community to match his to assist in paying for these other programs and services that have been recently eliminated from the Parks & Recreation Division and the General Fund. Mr. Mercy is planning to speak in Public Comment. ITEM BUDGETED: N/A STRATEGIC PRIORITY 24-25: A Safe and Healthy Yakima RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Resolution.
