UNIX REAS, aLLcitizens regardless of race, creed or ethnicity deserve to be treated with
dignity, respect, compassion, and justice; and
UNIT REAS, each act of racism or discrimination is one too many; and
UNIX REAS, racism can take many different forms, including but not Limited to
discrimination; personal attacks, including violence; written or verbal threats or insults; and
damage to property, including graffiti; and
UrEREAS, racism and discrimination hurts everyone; and
UrEREAS, because racism hurts everyone, TWCAs across the nation have taken a
stand against racism to raise people's consciousness that racism stiff eiists in many forms; and
UrEREAS, the elimination of racism can only be achieved through the participation
of aLLcitizens in dialogue, reflection, and action; and
UNIT REAS, our sharedgoaLis to advocate for increasedawareness of the Lasting and
negative effects of racism in our communities, institutions, and personal relationships; and
UrEREAS, the persistence and pervasiveness of racism divides our community and
keeps individuals from achieving success in education, economics, employment, and quality of
fife.

weLG-being of our community, I, Kathy Coffey, Mayor of the City of Yakima and on behalf of
