ITEM TITLE: Recognition of 2016 Historic Preservation Awards to John Baule,
Jo Miles, and Jason Eaton

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The City of Yakima Historic Preservation Commission voted on 2016 awards at its January 25,
2017 meeting. The awards were presented to the recipients at the February 22, 2017, Historic
Preservation Commission meeting.
Awards presented include:
Person - John Baule for his recent retirement from the Yakima Valley Museum and his numerous
contributions to promoting Yakima's history.
Research - Jo Miles for his extensive research and published documents on Yakima's history,
specifically his recent book "Kamiakin Country".
Project - Jason Eaton for his recent rehabilitation improvements to the Emporium building
(Semon building) at 121 East Yakima Ave.
