Drop the Welcoming City BS Drop the mall What the vast majority of city residents is good police and fire, good roads, storm drains and utility services You are failing the last three Yet you spend most your time on social issues and showboat projects How many hours have you spent with rubber boots on this last week looking at drainage and flooding problems How much time have you spent in the last year personally walking and examining our failing road and streets Nearly no time, RIGHT So stop running the council like a debutant sorority or social justice club Get to City business STREETS, DRAINS, UTILITIES!!!!! February 22, 2017 Melissa Hill — _melinalaska(cD-gmail com Dear City of Yakima, I was born and raised her till I moved away in 1992 to attend college I am writing to encourage you to not make this issue about RACE, or "illegals" as ignorant people use this term Nor should you make this about being undocumented or not. What I am strongly encouraging you to do and what I am asking of my city is to create a resolution where we don't want a police state We don't want the Federal Government in our lives any more than we want them taking our tax dollars A police state is a term denoting a government that exercises power arbitrarily through the power of the police force We have anti discrimination laws and I don't believe anyone wants to be stopped and frisked, or be profiled in anyway, you have too many tattoos, and you have a turban or black trench coat on We don't want to over tax our local law enforcement with doing the job of the federal government. My suggestion however is to remove the Welcoming City concept. Whereas Rights guaranteed to the states under the principle of federalism Under the Constitution, states have considerable autonomy to pass, enforce, and interpret their own laws and to pursue their own public policy programs We the City of Yakima will not impose upon our law enforcement or our local residences any undo and unnecessary actions by city officials including, those residing in city schools, local law enforcement, or any employee or contractor paid by the city of Yakima, that would infringe or be considered an invasion of personal privacy I think it is important we have certain freedoms, the right to free movement and to reside and enter and exit the city limits with out being questioned, detained, or intimidated with out cause that is what is really important here, not the race issue, please make this about the Federal Governments over reach, about American freedoms and the federal government NOT having jurisdiction over our LOCAL law enforcement or civil servants Robert Massong — bobmassonq(a)-charter.net I am disappointed with this council Instead of moving ahead with major city issues we have three council members pushing there own minority agenda You represent 100 percent of the interest of Yakima voters not 40 percent. Do the job you were elected to do And start working on issues such as streets, homeless etc Michael Cuillier— mcuillier hotmail corn I live in the lower valley What happens in Yakima effects the entire valley I believe that approving this agenda will effect my family's safety If approved I will no longer shop in Yakima Thank you Cathy Dekker— cdekker509(c)-charter net I want to express my opinion on this matter I am not one to write letters or go to council meetings, but this is beyond reasoning I'm all for safety for LEGAL immigrants but not making Yakima a sanctuary for illegals Why don't we put time, money and effort into helping immigrants become legal? Sanctuary cities are against federal law, so why??? Way to be example for our children Sherry Briggs — sherrybncggsC@_ymail.com I am a long time Yakima resident and a registered voter I am against the Welcoming City initiative I believe and know we are a Nation of laws, Yakima is a City of laws I do not want to harbor illegal criminals in our (my town) Yakima is known to welcome immigrants especially mexicans, tgey are the fastest growing population and mexican business owners are popping up all ovet Yakima To say that President Trump's executve order to try to establish National Security or to enforce the immigration laws already on the booksks to be racially prejudice is ludicrous!! I want to feel safe in my community, if we go against federal law, tie the hands of our sheriff's and police officers to do their jobs to kerp us safe from illegal immigrants that are committing crimes, the Mayor and the City commissioners are putting the citizens of Yakima in danger and will be held accountable to the full extent of the law!! Enough of this foolishness, legal immigrants, visa and work vouchers have ALWAYS been welcome here!! This Welcoming City initiative is a far left driven agenda that only serves to divide the community and put law abiding citizens at risk of being victims of crime, loss of tax payer money and job loss! I expect our Mayor and City commissioners to conduct themselves lawfully, respectfully and to quit playing dangerous political games!! Nick Brawn — brawnconstruction(a-)gmail.com We the Citizens do not want to be a Sanctuary City This has been a terrible idea, and has deeply devide Yakima Avina Gutierrez, Dulce Gutierrez, and Carmen Mendez are pushing this for their own agenda, and they don't care what the Citizens of this town want. It is a bad idea, please put an end to this Thank you
