"Serving our community with pride"

This letter is in reference to see if the City of Yakima Police Department would be willing
and able to donate 1-2 used patrol vehicles to the Town of Pe Ell Police Department.
The Town of Pe Ell is located in Lewis County, Washington the population of the Town is
about 600. Based on the very limited funding -budget and decrease in grant opportunities the
Pe Ell Police Department has been unable to obtain any new or used patrol vehicles.
The Pe Ell Police Department is currently using two older late model 1990's Ford Crown
Victoria's which were already used vehicles when the Pe Ell Police Department obtained
them, however both vehicles now have over 100,000 miles on them.
The current vehicles are becoming unsafe for the Officers to use based on the amount of
mileage that is on them and the overall condition. I am currently actively seeking to obtain
1-2 newer -used patrol vehicles to replace the current fleet of patrol vehicles that we have, at
this time we only have two vehicles in our fleet.
I would like to thank you for your time and consideration in this request.
Sincerely,
g7.%

AGENDA STATEMENT
Item No. 1 ?
For Meeting of October 18, 2005
ITEM TITLE: Consideration of a Resolution Transferring Two Surplus Used Police Vehicles
to the City of Pe Ell, Washington.
SUBMITTED BY: Chief Granato, Police Department
CONTACT PERSON/TELEPHONE: Capt. Jeff Schneider - 575-6151
SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The Police Department has received a request from Chief Mike Catlett of the Pe Ell Police
Department requesting the donation of two used police vehicles. The City of Pe Ell has a population
of only 600 and is unable to afford to replace their old and increasingly unsafe police vehicles. The
City of Yakima has two used police vehicles that are surplus and would normally be disposed of at
auction.
We believe it is in the spirit of cooperation and public safety to donate these two police vehicles to the
City of Pe Ell instead of auctioning them. They will be of more use in protecting life and property if
donated to Pe Ell rather than the benefit we would gain by the small amount of revenue we would
gain in auctioning them.
